Controlling the Analog Generator
The top most two fields in the An a log Gen er a tor panel con trol the gen er a tor
wave form. The An a log Gen er a tor is ca pa ble of pro duc ing sine waves, square
waves, noise and other wave forms. At this point the wave form should be set to
Sine: Nor mal (Sine in the left field, that is, and Nor mal in the right). Drop
down the left-hand list box and choose Square to change the wave form to a
square wave. If you are mon i tor ing the sig nal with the in ter nal speaker, you
will hear the tim bre of the sig nal change. You will also see the sig nal level
change in the An a log An a lyzer panel. (A square wave has a higher rms level
than a sine wave for a given am pli tude set ting.)
The square wave form has one pa ram e ter or set ting available: the fre quency.
This is set in the field be low the wave form se lec tion fields. We will now
change the gen er a tor fre quency to 2 kHz, as fol lows:

Click in the Fre quency field in the An a log Gen er a tor panel. The text
1.00000 kHz be comes high lighted.

Use the key board to type 2k, the new gen er a tor fre quency. As you can
hear in the mon i tor speaker, the fre quency does not change.

Now press the En ter key. The text changes to 2.00000 kHz, the pitch in -
creases from the mon i tor speaker, and the fre quency read ing in the An a -
log An a lyzer panel changes to about 2 kHz.
Now switch the wave form type back to sine. The cur rent square wave fre -
quency is used for the sine wave.
You can enter standard SI prefixes for multipliers as you
enter the value in the setting field. For example, ‘2000’, ‘2k’,
‘0.002M’, and ‘2000000m’ all produce the same frequency.
All wave forms can be gen er ated at any am pli tude from 0 V to the max i mum
out put volt age of the in stru ment. The am pli tude for each chan nel is con trolled
by fields be low the OUTPUTS field. If the Track A checkbox is checked, the
