9. Risk Group 3 Safety
9. RISK GROUP 3 SAFETY
9.1 General considerations
Notice on optical radiation from Balder Projector when it becomes Risk Group 3.
F or RG3, no direct exposure to the beam shall be perm itted.
For RG3, operators shall control a cces s to the beam within the hazard distance or install the product at a height that will prevent
eye exposure within the haz ard distance.
T his projector has one (1) built-in Class 4 laser clusters. D isassem bly or modication is very dangerous and should never be
attempted.
Any operation or adjustment not specically instructed by the user ’s guide creates the risk o f hazardous laser radiation expo-
sure.
D o not open or disassemble the projector as this may cause dam age by the exposure of laser radiation.
FOR PRO FESS IONAL US E O NLY m eans installation can only be carried out by B arco AU THORIZED PERSON NEL familiar with
potential hazards ass ociated with high intensity light beams.
9.2 Safety Training provided by the installer
Refer to docum ent 601–0462 “Declaration of user safety training” for training tick off and signing.
WARNING: Th e installer is res ponsible that the user is instructed. The u ser w ill sign a docum ent to conrm
that the instructions have been received and understood.
Users denition
The Balder projector is intended for persons who have been instructed and trained by Barco au thorized pe rsonnel to identify energy
sources that may cause injury and to take precautions to avoid unintentional contact with or exposure to those ener gy sources.
This personnel must instruct the user a bout:
H igh intensity light bea m. The user must respect the exclusion zone, based on the light beam Haz ard Distance (HD).
D angerous energy sources inside the projector. The user is not allowed to remove any cover from t he projector.
The installation, maintenance or service is for skilled persons only.
T he requirements for a restricted access location and an exclusion zone.
Restricted access location
To protect untrained persons and children, th e projector must be installed in a restricted access location. The denition of a
restricted access location is a location for equipment where both of the following paragraphs app ly:
Ac cess can only be gained by Barco authorized personnel or persons who have been instructed and trained by a skilled person.
The persons must have been instructed about the reasons for the restriction applied to the location and abou t the pre cautions
that shall be taken.
Ac cess is only possible through the use o f the tool or lock and key, or other means of security like sufcient clearance height
(ref Hazard Distances chapter), and is controlled by the authority responsible for t he location.
Why a restricted access location: This is a RG 3 product. Based on international requirements, no per son is allowed to enter the
projected beam within the zone between the projection lens and the related Hazard Distance (HD). This shall be physically impossible
by creating sufcient s eparation height or by placing optional barriers. W ithin the restricted area operator training is considered
sufcient. The applicable sepa ration heights are discussed in "High Brightness P recautions", page 51
9.3 High Brightness Precautions
Restriction Zone (RZ) based on the HD (Hazard Distance).
The HD depends on the am ount of lumens produced by the projector and the type of lens installed. See next chapter"HD in function
of the lens Thro w Ratio (TR)", page 8 .
