6 Installation
Installation, initial commissioning, retrofitting, repairs, adjustments or dismantling of the
devicemustonlybecarriedoutbyemployeesofthemanufacturerorpersonsauthorized
bythemanufacturer.
6.1 PreinstallationGuidelines
Note:FortheinstallationoftheBPHG90itisnecessarytoselectanappropriatelocation
andmaketherequiredprovisionsforthesafeoperationoftheinstrument.
WARNING
Particular attention is required for the safety aspects of working with
hydrogengas.
Beforeinstallation,checktoinsurethefollowingminimumconditionsareprovided:
1. The room where the BPGH 90 is to be installed must be equipped with a
permanent hydrogen detector to monitor the air and give a visual and acoustic
alarmifhydrogengasconcentrationisdetectedishigherthanasafelimit.
2. ThepermanentH

sensorshouldbesubjecttoregularmaintenancetoensureits
safeoperation.
3. The room must be well ventilated and the air should renewed by appropriate
means.
4. A provision must be in place to allow the safe removal of waste hydrogen gas
fromtheroom,e.g.throughafumecupboard.TheBPHG90isdeliveredwith10
mflexibleexhausttubingforthispurpose.
5. Theroommustbeequippedwithahydrogengassupply(99.999%;6to10bar)to
whichthegeneratorwillbeconnected.Provisionshavetobemadewithregards
to the supply of hydrogen gas to ensure that no failure can cause a sudden
release of H
2
in quantities such that the LOWER EXPLOSION LIMIT (LEL) is
exceeded. The LEL for Hydrogen is 4% by volume. Large capacity hydrogen
containersshouldbestoredoutsidetheroom.
6. Open flames or other ignition sources in the room are prohibited and a
correspondingwarningsignshouldbedisplayed.
7. WarningsignsmustbevisiblenearthepositionoftheBPHG90andonthemain
entrancedoor.Attheentrancetotheroomanappropriateflammablegaswarning
sign (H
2
flammable gas DANGER sign, of which two are delivered with the
generator) must be placed and the room must be identified as a nonsmoking
area.
8. TheBPHG90mustbeconnectedtothemains100230VAC50/60Hz,500Watt.
