Formaximumrepeatabilityandaccuracy:

installtheGPSantennaataheightandeldlocation
thatwillnotchangefromoneseasontothenext
•
ensurethattheGPSantennaislevel
TheRTKbroadcastantenna,mountedwiththesame
bracketastheGPSantenna,issecondinimportance
sinceitmustremainincommunicationwiththevehicle
throughouttheeld.ThelocationoftheGPSreceiver,
case,andbatterypowersupplyareamatterofconve-
nience.
Considerthesefactorswhenchoosingeldpositionsfor
thebasestation:

Thepositionmustbeawayfromvehicletrafcpatterns
topreventaccidentalcontact.
•
Thepositionmustberepeatable–easilylocatedfrom
seasontoseason,yeartoyear.
•
Imaginethepositionthroughtheentiregrowingseason
whentheremaybetallstandingcropbetweentheloca-
tionandvehicle.

ThesupportfortheGPSantennamustbesturdyand
solid,topreventmovementandtippingfromnormal
windorrainduringeldwork.

Thepositionmustofferaclearviewofthesky,away
fromorabovebuildingsorotherlargeobjectsthatcan
reectsignals.

Thepositionmustofferclearcommunicationbetween
thebroadcastradioantennaandthereceiveronthe
vehiclethroughouttheeld.Ingeneral,uselineofsight
asaguide.Ifyoucannotseetheradioreceiveron
thevehiclewhenitisatthelowestpointofaeldor
behindarisefromtheGPSantennaheightposition,the
broadcastmaybelostatthoselocations.
Finally,testalocationbeforeyoucommittoit.Basesta-
tioncomponentsareportableandlendthemselvestoex-
perimentation.
