7.9 Compressed Air
System
The compressed air system provides the air
which controls movement of various components
of the spreader/feeder.
In addition to periodically checking the system
for leaks and performing routine maintenance,
various components require periodic adjustment
or replacement, or occasional repair. These
procedures include:
Air Cylinder Air Flow Adjustment--
Inlet Conveyor Lift
Transfer Rodless
Transfer Clamp
Lower Spreader Belt Push
Discharge Conveyor Air Cylinder Air
Flow Adjustment
Spreader Clamp Back Air Pressure
Adjustment
Transfer Rodless Air Cylinder
Maintenance.
Air Bar Alignment
Air Foil Adjustment
Tail Air Assembly Adjustment
Air Cylinder Air Flow Adjustment
Air cylinders should open and close smoothly
and without banging; paired air cylinders should
open and close together.
Adjusting the exhaust air flow valves when
necessary helps keep the unit operating smoothly,
quietly and efficiently.
The following general procedure covers these
air cylinders:
Inlet Conveyor Lift (Figure 7-64)
If a new item is fed before the previous
one has cleared the transfer section, the
inlet conveyor automatically lifts to
space the flatwork so that one piece will
not interfere with the next.
If the inlet conveyor does not lift when
it should, jams will likely result. This
indicates the cylinder flow controls need
adjustment.
Adjust this air cylinder so that it is
operating quickly enough for peak
production performance.
NOTE: The conveyor lifts when
feeding has reached maximum
speed or when one of the safety
proximity sensors is tripped.
Figure 7-64: The inlet conveyor lift cylinder is
located at the center front of the unit.
