Edge Maxx Operating Principles
5-15
Air Reservoir
A crossbeam running down the center of the
machine (Figure 5-10, B) is sealed and used as an
air reservoir. This holds a supply of compressed
air for use in various parts of the machine as
required.
Air Valves/Air Valve Solenoids
The machine uses a number of air valves
which are actuated electronically by signals
from the I/O control panel. These valves (Figure
5-10, C) and solenoids (D) control the flow of
compressed air to the various air cylinders and
air bars incorporated into the unit.
Air Cylinders
The machine has a number of air cylinders
(Figure 5-11), which are use compressed air to
create a mechanical movement.
Flow Controls
Flow controls (Figure 5-12) work similar to
regulators or the check valves used on many air
cylinders. They control the pressure and rate of
air flow to a device or air outlet.
Air Bars
The air bars (Figure 5-13) use compressed air
to help create a smooth laydown of pieces onto
the discharge conveyor.
Pneumatic Clutch/Brake
A pneumatically-controlled clutch/brake
(Figure 5-14) is used to control positioning of
the flatwork so that it can be properly grabbed
by the transfer clamps.

positioning of flatwork in the rolls.

the discharge conveyor ribbons.

movement.

or checkvalves.
