3 Maintenance
3.1 Scheduled Maintenance
CAUTION!
Perform visual inspection of all fire detectors as often as needed to find detectors
which has deliberately been covered (vandalised). A covered detector can’t detect a
fire (by means of smoke, heat or flames) and the fire detection system can't detect if
a detector has been covered and report this as a fault.
The service personnel are responsible to maintain documentation for all performed
repair and maintenance activities. The documentation must be kept up to date in a
chronological order and include relevant information according to IEC 61508-1,
7.7.2.1g and 7.15.2.3
Plan scheduled maintenance at a regular time interval to ensure reliable function.
The functions of the fire detection system shall be tested at the interval stated in
each application specific documentation.
If an internal battery is used:
Check the voltage.
NOTE!
All CFD5000 loop units has a built in self-test (BIST) to improve the reliability of
the system and to extend time between proof tests for this units. For further
information, see section Periodic BIST, page 8.
Hint!
The Common History list with pre-alarms, fire alarms, fault alarms, disablements,
warnings, and I/Os can be a useful tool during service and maintenance work.
Hint!
In order to secure an effective maintenance level in case of a prompt need for
replacement it is recommended to keep modules and loop units as spare parts for the
fire detection system.
Considerations for fire detectors
DANGER!
Replacement of loop units must be handled by technical personnel with sufficient
knowledge of the safety level and the various functions in the fire detection system.
NOTE!
Check for contaminated detectors at a regular time interval. Use the Control panel
menu system to study a list showing in which condition the detectors are.
Regarding still lightly contaminated detectors, consider to stock this units as
spare parts.
A detector with a dirty/polluted sensor element shall be replaced.
Replace all detectors that has reached their pre-set level for contamination
alarm.
