Management
Dell™ PowerEdge™ systems incorporate many new and enhanced power
management features. The entire platform, from hardware to firmware to
systems management software, has been designed with a focus on power
efficiency, power monitoring, and power management.
NOTE: iDRAC6 power management logic utilizes a Complex Programmable Logic
Device (CPLD) present in the blade server. Updates to CPLD devices are available at
the Dell Support website at support.dell.com under the System Firmware or System
Board sections. Dell recommends that you update your blade server with the latest
CPLD firmware version. The current CPLD firmware version is displayed in the
iDRAC6 Web GUI.
PowerEdge systems provide many features for monitoring and managing power:
• Power Monitoring: iDRAC6 collects a history of power measurements
and calculates running averages, peaks, and so on. Using iDRAC6 Web
interface, you can view the information on the
Power Monitoring screen.

Show Graph at
the bottom of the

Power Budgeting: At boot, a system inventory enables a system power
budget of the current configuration to be calculated. See "Power

Power Control: iDRAC6 enables you to remotely perform several
power management actions on the managed system

Configuring and Managing Power
You can use iDRAC6 Web interface and RACADM command line interface (CLI)
to manage and configure power controls on the PowerEdge system. Specifically,
you can:
• View the power status of the server. See "Viewing Power Monitoring."
