CHAPTER 3 STARTING BINDING OPERATION
Adjustment
Base position
When the cover is skewed.
Primary feed roller pressure
adjustment
Leave the adjustment in its original position
in normal times. However when the
cover is skewed, move the position of the
adjustment.
The higher the position is, the stronger the
pressure is.
The right and left adjustments should be in
the same position.
However, there are times when adjusting
either pressure can correct the skew.
If you increase the pressure for a thin
cover, the cover may get creases. Adjust
the pressure checking the feeding
conditions.
Base position When the cover is
not smoothly fed.
Secondary feed
roller pressure adjustment
Secondary feed roller pressure
adjustment
Leave the adjustment in its original position
in normal times. However when the cover is
not fed smoothly, lower the secondary feed
roller pressure adjustment to increase the
pressure.
● Use a cover with the thickness of 157g/m² or more to apply a score to the cover.
● When the cover thickness is less than 157g/m², a score may be skewed. Also, a print
near the folding line may have cracks if the nipping is applied without scoring.
● The paper's grain direction comes in two types: the long grain and the short grain. The
applied scoring condition will change according to the paper's grain direction.
Grain direction
Feed direction
When using the short grain paper:
Because the scoring direction (feed
direction) is same as the grain, a
score will be applied to the short
grain paper more easily than to the
long grain paper. A thin cover may be
partly torn.
Grain direction
Feed direction
When using the long grain paper:
Because the scoring direction (feed
direction) meets the grain at a right
angle, a score will not be applied to
the long grain paper as easily as to
the short grain paper.
