5.9 Shielding of connection cables
Grounding of the Modbus RTU, multiple I/O port, and Ethernet cables
Shielding of connection cables described here applies to all data interfaces of the econ sens3. These
are:
- Modbus RTU interface
- Multiple I/O ports
- Ethernet cable.
Ethernet cable:
A large area of the exposed Ethernet cable shield should be connected to a suitable grounding point
at both cable ends with low resistance. For this, a BTR network socket, for example (see Fig. 20), can
be used in the control cabinet for top-hat rail mounting. In this case, the connection to the grounding
point is made over the integrated equipotential bonding plate directly on the grounded top-hat rail.
Modbus RTU and Multiple I/O port cables:
The cable shields of the Modbus RTU cable and the multiple I/O port cable should also be connected
at both ends of the cable over a large area and with low resistance to a suitable grounding point of the
control cabinet. For this, shield clamps, for example, can be used for top-hat rail mounting, as shown
in Fig. 21.
