5.6 Ethernet connection
The econ sens3 energy consumption meter includes a 100Base-T network connection over which the
web interface can be opened. This connection can be directly established with a PC or a node, such
as hubs or switches. For this purpose, connect the sens3 to a patch cable (1:1) with your hub/switch or
directly to your PC (via crossover cable).
Further information concerning IP address settings, etc., is included under Initial Operation in Chapter
7.
Modbus TCP
Over the network connection of the econ sens3, measurement values and events (PRO version) can
be retrieved via the Modbus protocol. Parameter settings are made in the Modbus submenu in
Chapter 8.10. The associated register addresses are also found in this chapter.
Cable recommendation
A cat 5 or higher twisted pair and shielded data cable is recommended for data transfer. Additional
recommendations for installation and shielding of connecting cables for all data interfaces can be
found in Chapter 5.9 of this handbook.
Attention!
Disturbance of other network devices from incorrect network settings
Incorrect network settings can impair or disturb the functions of other network devices. Make sure at
commissioning that there are no duplicate IP addresses in the same network.
