1.4.6 Setup SMI-S Environment
This function enables or disables the Storage Management Initiative - Specification (SMI-S).
SMI-S is a standard specification concerning storage management technologies by Storage Networking
Industry Association (SNIA).
When enabling the SMI-S, the ETERNUS DX can be managed from general storage management applications
that support the SMI-S.
For details on the parameters for the [Setup SMI-S Environment] function of the controller firmware version
V10L2x or earlier, refer to "A.1.3.6 Setup SMI-S Environment (for Controller Firmware Version V10L2x or
earlier)" (page 678).
For the factory default settings for this function, refer to "Appendix B Setup SMI-S Environment" (page 973)

The procedure to enable or disable the SMI-S function is as follows:
■ Enabling or disabling the SMI-S function when the controller firmware version is V10L2x or
earlier (ETERNUS DX60 S3)
Procedure
1 Click [Setup SMI-S Environment] in [Action].
• When switching the SMI-S setting between enabled or disabled, reboot the ETERNUS DX (for the control-
ler firmware versions V10L2x and earlier).
• If enabling or disabling of the SMI-S is being performed, the [Setup SMI-S Environment] action cannot be
clicked (for the controller firmware versions V10L3x and later).
• This function can be used to check the current SMI-S setting. Refer to "System Settings" in "ETERNUS Web
GUI User’s Guide (Operation)" for details.
• For the controller firmware versions V10L3x and later, one of the following buttons is displayed.
- A [Stop] button (if the current SMI-S setting is "Enable")
- A [Start] button (if the current SMI-S setting is "Disable")
