Features Introduction
If the server has a corresponding RAID configuration, defective HDD modules
can also be exchanged online (hot-swap).
Onboard SAS controller with IME functionality
For operating internal hard disk drives the SAS controller with Integrated
Mirroring Enhanced functionality is available. Integrated Mirroring Enhanced
offers additionally RAID 0,1 functionality for the internal disk configuration (IME
level 1).
I To configure Integrated Mirroring Enhanced the controller has its own
RAID-Select Utility. For further information see “Integrated Mirroring
User’s Guide“ on the ServerBooks DVD (choose Controllers from the
menu).
Onboard RAID5 processor
The RAID functionality of the onboard SAS controller can be upgraded: The
RX300 S3 comes with an onboard RAID5 processor which can be activitated
via an optional upgrading kit (SAS MegaRAID PCI Express). RAID level 0, 1,
10, 5 and 50 are supported. You find further information in the Options Guide
(see “Related Publications” on page 103).
Accessible drives / components
Various mounting locations are available:
– one location for a 3.5 inch slimline 1.44 MB floppy disk drive (optionally) or
for a LocalView module (optionally)
– one location for a slimline DVD-/DVD-ROM drive (optionally)
The accessible drives integrated in this locations cannot be replaced online.
A USB tape drive can be installed optionally in the left drive cage (see also the
configurator under “Related Publications” on page 103). As a result, two
mounting locations are occupied in the drive cage:
I – In case of 3.5-inch HDD configurations these mounting locations are
no longer available for HDD modules.
The magnetic tape drive cannot be replaced online.
