Calibrations & Depth
The CMD instrument allows measuring in two depth ranges according to
the turning of the probe, so each probe is calibrated both in HIGH and LOW
positions. It is necessary to set the same depth range (HIGH/ LOW) in the control
unit as the really used range of the probe (check the proper turning of the probe).
The CMD-2, CMD-4, CMD-4/6 and CMD-Explorer instruments are
delivered with two factory calibrations done on the surface of ground and 1 m
above the ground level. The CMD-MiniExplorer, CMD-1, CMD-Tiny and CMD-
Duo are calibrated only on the ground surface. The CMD-Duo is not sensitive to
the small change of level above the ground. It can be used both on the ground and
at a certain level (up to 1m) above ground with the same calibration.
Up to 6 additional calibrations can be made and labeled by user, e.g. with
the respect to the really used height of the probe above the ground surface (height
of the operator or carrying wheel etc.). For details see the chapter User Calibration.
The CMD-MiniExplorer, CMD-1 and CMD-Tiny are especially sensitive to
metal objects around the probe (due to the usual measuring position on the
ground). Also the distance of the probe from the operator influences measured
values in a certain measure. It is necessary to avoid additional metal objects from
the vicinity of the probe.
Factory calibration names are:
- F-Ground, Hi factory calibration on the ground for high depth range
- F-Ground, Lo factory calibration on the ground for low depth range
- F-1m, Hi factory calibration 1 m above the ground for high depth range
- F-1m, Lo factory calibration 1 m above the ground for low depth range
In the CMD-4/6 probe there are different names of calibrations:
- FCMD4-0m, Hi calibration on the ground for high depth range CMD4
- FCMD4-0m, Lo calibration on the ground for low depth range CMD4
- FCMD6-0m, Hi calibration on the ground for high depth range CMD6
- FCMD6-0m, Lo calibration on the ground for low depth range CMD6
- FCMD4-1m, Hi calibration 1m above the ground, high depth range CMD4
- FCMD4-1m, Lo calibration 1m above the ground, low depth range CMD4
- FCMD6-1m, Hi calibration 1m above the ground, high depth range CMD6
- FCMD6-1m, Lo calibration 1m above the ground, low depth range CMD6
