Evaluation of vibration ampli-
tudes as per ISO 20816
Evaluation of machine vibrations
The basis of the following is the standard ISO 20816-1:2016 /
Mechanical vibration – Measurement and evaluation of ma-
chine vibration – Part 1: General guidelines.
ISO 20816 recommends limits for different groups of ma-
chines
Evaluation of the vibration cumulative value as the effective
value of the vibration velocity (in mm/s).
Frequency range 10 to 1,000 Hz.
Guideline values (formerly ISO 10816)
Zone boundaries
Fig. 10-18: Ranges of typical values for zone boundaries A/B, B/C and C/D on
non-rotating components (as per [7])
This table applies only to machines for which no special in-
ternational standards exist and for which no suitable empir-
ical values are available.
Small machines (e.g. electric motors with an output of up to
15 kW) tend to be at the lower end of a respective range
and large machines (e.g. engines on structures which are
elastic in the direction of measurement) tend to be at the
upper end of a respective range.
