The op erating system on the specied device is used to start y
our
workstation.
If you wish to interact with the Initial System Loader (ISL) b efore b o oting
your workstation, type the following at the
BOOT_ADMIN>
prompt:
boot
device
isl

This causes the ISL to be loaded from the sp ecied device. After a short
time, the following prompt app ears on your screen:
ISL>
ISL is the program that actually controls the loading of the operating
system. By interacting with ISL, you can choose to load an alternate version
of the HP-UX op erating system.
For example, if the usual kernel (
/hp-ux
)on your ro ot disk (
scsi.6.0
) has
become corrupted, and you wish to bo ot your workstation from the backup
kernel (
/SYSBCKUP
), type the following at the
ISL>
prompt:
hpux boot disk(scsi.6;0)/SYSBCKUP
