3.1 Introduction to PoE
This section describes the basic concepts of PoE.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) refers to power supply over a 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, or 1000Base-
T twisted pair cable. PoE can be used to effectively provide power for terminals such as IP
phones, Access Points (APs), portable device chargers, point-of-sale (POS) machines, cameras,
and data collection. Terminals are powered when they access the network. Therefore, the indoor
cabling of power supply does not need to be considered. Currently, PoE supports the unified
standard IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at, which enables devices developed by different vendors to be
compatible with each other.
3.2 PoE Features Supported by the AR150/200
This section describes the PoE features supported by the AR150/200.
NOTE
l Currently, only AR207V-P supports the PoE features.
l Currently, only Ethernet 0/0/0 to Ethernet 0/0/7 on the SRU of the AR150/200 support PoE.
PoE Functions Provided by the AR150/200
l The PoE power supply is independent of the system power supply.
l The AR150/200 complies with the legacy power supply standard, and can also provide
power for PDs that do not comply with the legacy standard.
l The AR150/200 can provide power and transmit data at the same time through signal lines
1, 3, 2, and 6 of the category-3 or category-5 twisted pair. If the PD can obtain power only
through idle lines 4, 5, 7, and 8 of the twisted pair, the AR150/200 can provide power
through a converter.
l The AR150/200 provides power for devices through Ethernet electrical interfaces on the
main control board at a distance of up to 100 m.
l The maximum PoE power of an electrical interface is 30 W.
NOTE
l When the AR150/200 provides power for a PD, the PD can work without other external power supplies.
l If a PD has an external power supply, the AR150/200 and the external power supply of the PD work
in redundancy mode.
PoE Power Supplies Supported by the AR150/200
The AR150/200 does not support built-in power modules. It provides only one external PoE
power module and its default power is 100 W.
3.3 Configuring PoE Functions
This section describes how to configure PoE functions.
