Step 2. Checking the Electrical Outlets
Make sure that the electrical outlets you use are properly grounded.
DANGER
An electrical outlet that is not correctly wired could place hazardous voltage on the metal parts of the system or the devices
that attach to the system. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that the outlet is correctly wired and grounded to
prevent an electrical shock. (D004)
Step 3. Assembling the Materials
Refer to your system management or system hardware manuals to locate the information that you need to install the 7226
Storage Enclosure.
1. Get your system unit manuals now. You may find the needed information under the topics:
SAS controllers
USB controllers
Fibre Channel controllers
External SAS devices
External USB devices
External Fibre Channel devices
2. Do not continue until you have verified where the SAS or USB controllers are located (where you make the cable
connection).
Record the controllers' locations.
Step 4. Placing the 7226 Storage Enclosure
The 7226 Storage Enclosure should be installed in a system rack in a clean environment. Consider the length of the power cord
and the SAS, USB, and Fibre Channel cables and ensure that the media can be easily inserted when selecting the location.
The 7226 Storage Enclosure should be installed at least 30 inches above the floor to reduce contamination that can affect the
drives.
To place the 7226 Storage Enclosure, complete the following steps:
1. Mount the 7226 Storage Enclosure in the rack as described in Installing the 7226 Storage Enclosure into a Rack.
2. Connect the power cable to the 7226 Storage Enclosure. (Do not plug it into the electrical outlet at this time.) Route
the power cable through the cable management arm as described in Installing the 7226 Storage Enclosure into a Rack.
Note: Heavy objects should not be stacked on the 7226 Storage Enclosure.
Step 5. Connecting the SAS, USB, or Fibre Channel Cables
To connect the SAS, USB, or Fibre Channel cables, perform the following steps:
Note: If installed, remove the connector covers.
DANGER
To prevent a possible shock from touching two surfaces with different protective ground (earth), use one hand, when possible,
to connect or disconnect signal cables. (D001)
1. There is one SAS, USB, or Fibre Channel cable connector for each drive installed in the 7226 Storage Enclosure. On the
rear of the 7226 Storage Enclosure (1 in Figure 1), insert the device connector end of each cable into the cable
