• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See

Procedure
Step 1. Make preparations for this task.
a. Remove all drives and drive fillers from the drive bays. See
“Remove a hot-swap drive” on
page 72
.
b. Remove the top cover. See
“Remove the top cover” on page 132.
c. Disconnect the cables from the backplane. See
“Backplane and backplate cable routing” on
page 41
.
Step 2. Grasp the backplane and carefully lift it out of the chassis.
