the Bluet ooth link would not work) , switch- off the Trackit , connect the Bluet ooth Module t o t he
Trackit and switch-on. The Trackit will rem em ber it s initialisation task, will det ect the Bluet ooth
Module and init ialise it wit h default values ( sufficient to enable it t o work) . Not e t hat it can take
several seconds for t he Trackit t o do t his – do not change anyt hing until the Trackit is ready.
The Trackit will only do this init ialisation once – even if powered off and on again, until in-
st ruct ed again t o do it. Also not e t hat at swit ch- on, if t he Trackit does not det ect t he Bluetoot h
Module, the rem em bered instruct ion is cleared.
The sit uations whereby a Bluet ooth Module m ight becom e corrupt ed are very rare, however
due t o t he com plexity of Bluetoot h and the full access given to all t he set up param et ers, it is
possible t hat inadvertent or inexperienced operat ion m ay cause incorrect set tings. I t should
also be noted t hat it is possible to allow t he set up of t he Bluet ooth Module t o occur over a
Bluetoot h connection (refer lat er) . This could allow unexpected connections to interfere with
the Module setup.
• Use low - pow e r m ode . Only use this opt ion for t he early external first generation Bluet oot h
Module. I f t icked this option instruct s t he Trackit t o put t he Bluetooth Module int o a low- power
st at e after a period of no connect ion ( t he configurable t im er is described below) . This low
power st at e cont ributes significantly t o ext ending the Trackit ’s bat tery life whilst st ill offering all
the desirable features of Bluetoot h. I n this st ate the Module is st ill discoverable and connect a-
ble, but upon connection it m ust be t aken out of the low- power st at e. The applicat ion detects
whet her the Module is in low- power st at e and if so inst ructs t he Trackit t o set t he Module t o
norm al m ode. To accom plish t his, the Bluet ooth connect ion m ust be dropped mom entarily and
t hen re-connect ed. The ent ire process is autom at ic and t akes about 5 seconds. Refer t o the Ap-
pendix for det ails of t he low- power m ode power savings. Note that when using t he new Gener-
ation Bluetoot h Modules (OEMSPA332i and OBS433i) t here is no benefit t o using low power
m ode, so t he opt ion should be left off. During t he connection t im e, the applicat ion displays t he
following :
• Low - p ow e r m ode tim eout . This opt ion allows the sett ing of how m any m inutes of no connec-
tion m ust elapse before t he low- power m ode com es into operat ion.
• Allow Gue st conn e ct ion. I f ticked t his option instruct s t he Trackit to accept m ore t han one
sim ult aneous Bluetooth connection. Note t hat there is a separate enable for the application
(described on page 67) .
General
• Allow BU ba t t e r y cha r ge fr om m a in bat t e r y. Now t hat it is possible to connect t o t he Trackit
wirelessly, it is no longer possible in t hese sit uations to charge t he Trackit’s backup bat tery
from the I solator, as was previously possible wit h a direct wired connection. I t is im port ant that
t he backup bat t ery is char ged because it provides power t o t he Trackit ’s int ernal clock/ calendar
chip and also provides power to enable the Trackit to cont inue recording for a short while dur-
ing m ain bat t ery replacem ent. This option, if ticked, enables t he Trackit t o use it s m ain bat t ery
for char ging it s backup bat t ery. The Trackit only ever charges it s backup bat t er y once at
swit ch- on and only after a 10 m inute rest period (in case t he Trackit is swit ched on and off re-
peat edly in quick succession) . Additionally, the Trackit will only use power from its main bat -
teries if t hey are wit hin 75 – 100% of their capacit y, i.e. fresh batt eries. Furt herm ore, the
Trackit will only charge its backup bat tery for a period of 10 m inutes. All t his m eans t hat the
backup batt ery will receive a 5% charge at every Trackit swit ch- on at the expense of a 0.5%
drop in m ain bat t ery capacit y ( assum ing a single alkaline bat t er y – it will obviously be propor-
tionately less of a reduction for m ore m ain bat teries). Using t his option it is possible t o disable
