5 Operaon
The medin-NC3® can be used to administer pure CPAP therapy, push-supported CPAP therapy or High Flow therapy.
All versions are based on pure CPAP therapy and the pushes are added if required. For this purpose, the medin-NC3®
oers three CPAP modes and one High Flow mode:
- CPAP: Pure CPAP mode in which a constant CPAP pressure in the Medijet® is generated by a constant
ow. This mode operates without automac pushes. However, operators can trigger manual pushes
if necessary.
In addion, the Leak-Assist can addionally be switched on (see chapter 5.6).
- Apnea CPAP: In this mode, the basic CPAP mode described under CPAP is combined with apnea
monitoring. The medin-NC3® assesses the CPAP pressure signal and recognizes from this informaon
whether or not respiratory acvity is taking place. If no respiratory acvity can be detected for
a length of me that can be set, the medin-NC3® automacally triggers a push to smulate the
paent. In addion, the backup funcon can be used (see chapter 5.9) and the Leak-Assist can be
switched on for this purpose (see chapter 5.6).
- NIPPV: In contrast to CPAP mode, venlaon is provided here on two dierent ow and pressure
levels. The intensity of the second level as well as the changeover frequency and the me spent at
the higher level can be adjusted by the user.
In addion, the Leak-Assist can addionally be switched on (see chapter 5.6).
- High Flow (nHFT / HHHFNC): The High Flow mode oers a constant ow up to a maximum of
12 L/min. When starng High Flow mode, the user can only set a ow up to a maximum of 8 L/min,
for safety reasons. If he/she wishes to ulize the enre range up to 12 L/min, this must be done
deliberately by selecng the ow buon, pressing it once again and holding it down and thus seng
the ow greater than 8 L/min.
The h mode, Standby, can be used for the me between preparaon of the medin-NC3® and its actual use as
well as for pauses in the CPAP therapy for a paent.
Some operang steps and sengs are common to all medin-NC3® modes and are transferred when switching
from one mode to another, but some sengs are specic to parcular modes.
Warning:
- The medin-NC3® is intended for clinical use only.
- The medin-NC3® may only be used while the paent’s oxygen saturaon is being monitored at the
same me.
- The medin-NC3® may only be used by expert sta who have been trained for the device and under
their supervision.
- Use of the CPAP modes only in combinaon with the Medijet® nCPAP generator.
- Use of the nasal cannula mode only in combinaon with Nuow® nasal cannulas approved by medin.
- The medin-NC3® is a CPAP device. It is suitable only for paents who can breathe spontaneously and
not for paents who are dependent on arcial respiraon.
- Ensure that resuscitaon equipment is always available while the medin-NC3® is in use.
- A reliable, adequate power supply (mains or baery) must be available throughout the enre
duraon of medin-NC3® operaon.
- The medin-NC3® must not be switched o while it is connected to a paent.
- If unusual or inexplicable events occur while the medin-NC3® is in use, or if you hear unusual noises
or observe alarm messages that cannot be switched o, shut down the medin-NC3® and contact a
service technician.
