ush, g) Leak-Assist. The orange lines are used only to clarify the
signicance of the sensivity set as a limit between breathing and apnea and are not displayed by the medin-
NC3®. Instead, the sensivity is displayed on the le-hand edge of the CPAP curve as a pair of arrows (orange).
Warning:
Signicant amounts of condensate formaon in the tube system must be avoided since, as a result, the respiratory
signal in the CPAP pressure curve will be covered up, detecon of apnea phases can be prevented, and the triggering
of pushes can be inuenced.
Inspiraon: Figure 5-3 a
The seng in this eld determines both the duraon of pushes automacally triggered in the event of apnea, the
backup pushes, and the duraon of pushes triggered manually. It can be set to a me between 200 milliseconds
and 3 seconds.
Apnea me: Figure 5-3 b
The apnea me determines how long the medin-NC3® waits unl an automac push is triggered, if no respiratory
acvity can be detected in the CPAP pressure course. If no respiratory acvity can be detected even aer a push,
either the backup pushes are started or the device waits for the length of me set as apnea me before the next
push is triggered, depending on the backup seng. The length of me that can be set as the apnea me is any
me between 2 seconds and 30 seconds.
Please note:
The medin-NC3® has an internal block prevenng another apnea push being triggered immediately aer a push
for twice the length of me set as inspiraon me. This means that for a selected inspiraon me of two seconds,
the medin-NC3® does not emit any apnea push for four seconds aer the push, even if an apnea me of less
than four seconds is set.
Pushes based on the backup rate and manual pushes are not aected by this.
Sensivity: Figure 5-3 c
The sensivity seng determines the pressure uctuaons in the CPAP signal at which respiraon is detected. For
claricaon, the sensivity is shown as a pair of orange arrows on the le-hand side of the CPAP pressure curve
around the current CPAP average value. When seng the sensivity, the value selected here must be lower than the
pressure uctuaon caused by the paent’s normal respiraon. However, the value must also be greater than the
pressure uctuaons caused by the CPAP system. For the pressure signal shown in Figure 5-3 (without respiraon
on the le, with respiraon on the right), the sensivity shown in orange would be correct as it is lower than the
pressure uctuaons caused by respiraon and greater than the noise of the pressure signal without respiraon.
The purpose of this seng is to allow the medin-NC3® to deal with periods in which the CPAP pressure signal
remains within the limits as apnea and with situaons in which these limits are exceeded as respiratory acvity.
