1.2OverviewoftheKVL4000
TheKVL4000KeyV ariableLoaderisaportable,handheld,ruggeddevicewhosemostbasicfunctionistotransfer
encryptionkeystoatargetdevice.EncryptionkeyscanbeenteredmanuallybytheKVLuser,auto-generatedbythe
KVL,obtainedfromorsharedwithanotherKVL,ordownloadedfromaKeyManagementFacility(KMF).Keys
canbetransferredtosecuremobileandportableradios,infrastructuredevices,andsystemtestequipment.
TheKVL4000providesaUserInterfaceforenteringencryptionkeys,downloadingthemfromanexternalsource,
andtransferringthemtotargetdevices.Italsoprovidesinternalprocessingandmemoryforsecurekeystorage,as
wellasinterfacesfordatacommunication.
