7.7 REPLACING THE ULTRASONIC U/S HANDPIECE
Usually the ultrasonic handpiece is connected prior to a phacoemulsification procedure,
(See Section 6.3 System Setup and Preoperational Checks). In some incidences, replacing the
ultrasonic handpiece is necessary during the procedure.
7.7.1 Remove the faulty ultrasonic handpiece.
7.7.1.1 Disconnect the cassette aspiration tube (female fitting) from the ultrasonic handpiece
aspiration port (male fitting).
7.7.1.2 Disconnect the cassette irrigation tube (male fitting) from the ultrasonic handpiece
irrigation port (female fitting).
7.7.2 Refer to Section 6.2.4 Ultrasonic Handpiece to install a replacement handpiece and
prepare it for necessary preoperational checks.
7.7.3 Refer to Section 6.3 System Preoperational Checks to prime the system and perform
a system Fluidics Test.
