5. Inspect the rocker arm shaft and the shaft bore in the
cylinder head for wear or signs of scoring.
6. Measure I.D. of each rocker arm (A) for out-of-round
and visually inspect the I.D. surface. Replace arm if
excessive wear is evident.
7. Inspect rocker adjuster screws (B) for wear, pitting, or
damage to threads of the adjuster or locknut. Replace
all worn or damaged parts. NOTE: The end of the
adjuster is hardened and cannot be ground or re-
faced.
8. Measure O.D. of rocker shafts for out-of -round.
Inspect them for wear or damage. Replace if
excessive wear is evident. NOTE: Orientation of the
rocker shafts is important for reassembly.
CAMSHAFT REMOVAL AND INSPECTION
NOTE: Cam chain tensioner must be removed before
performing this procedure.
1. Remove the camshaft end cover.
2. Remove the sprocket bolt.
3. Slip the chain over the sprocket and remove sprocket.
4. If not removing the cylinder for other service, secure
the cam chain with a wire to prevent it from falling into
the crankcase.
5. Inspect cam sprocket teeth for wear or damage.
6. Inspect the automatic compression release
mechanism. Replace the cam if parts are worn.
