Pre-treatment of Dark Colored Garments
Pre-treatment application to prepare
If you want to use the dark-color (black) garments to print, you will need the following for pre-treatment
application:
This section describes an example of using the “PowerBright Pretreatment” solution.
NOTE: Contact your sales representative for the usage method when using other pre-treatment liquids.
• A well-ventilated room: good ventilation is essential for worker comfort and health. Application of
pre-treatment liquid outdoors is not recommended on windy days, as the wind can cause uneven
application. It is recommended that a room away from the printer be dedicated to the application of
pre-treatment so that the spray will not affect your printer.
• The color of the garment may change due to the application of the pretreatment liquid and may not
return to its original color even after washing. Please test the product on an inconspicuous area
before use.
• After applying the pretreatment liquid, dry the garment immediately. If left to dry naturally after
application, stain-like marks or discoloration may be noticeable on some garment.
• Our recommended process for applying the pre-treatment liquid is to use a high-volume, low-
pressure (HVLP) spray gun. These spray guns are commonly used for applying paints and are
available from paint supply stores or home improvement stores. The Wagner Control Spray Gun,
available for U.S. customers ONLY (figure below) and the Campbell Hausfeld Paint Sprayer, found
in local hardware stores, are both good choices.

• Before diluting, shake the bottle of pretreatment liquid 10-20 times to agitate. If sediment remains at
the bottom of the bottle, shake the bottle additional times.
• Dilute the RICOH-authorized pretreatment liquid (i.e., PowerBright Pretreatment liquid) with a 1.5-
time volume amount of distilled water (2:1).
