Appendix B
PowerFlex 7000 Drive Spare Part Storage
Requirements and Recommendations
Overview If equipment containing electrolytic capacitors (for example, power supplies)
is stored (unpowered) under normal storage temperatures and conditions, it
can be kept for up to 15 years. After 15 years, the electrolyte inside of the
capacitors dries because the rubber seals of the capacitor starts to deteriorate.
During the storage period (of up to 15 years) it’s required to maintain the
electrolytic capacitors (to preserve the aluminum oxide dielectric).
To maintain the health of the electrolytic capacitors, the equipment must be
energized annually.
Power Supplies
The following reconditioning procedures are applicable for the following
components:
Pioneer/Cosel power supply
IGDPS
IntelliVAC™ module
Absopulse AC/DC converter
Absopulse DC/DC converter
Energize the components with nominal input voltage for 1…2 hours every year
of storage. If the power supplies were stored for a longer than three years
without energizing, perform the reconditioning procedure as described below.
Reconditioning for AC/DC Power Supply
1. Connect the power supply through an AC autotransformer. The voltage
range (120/240V) is adapted to the nominal voltage of the energized item.
2. Feed the power supply with 25% of the nominal voltage of the energized
item for 15 minutes.
3. Increase voltage to 50% of the nominal voltage of the energized item,
feed the power supply for another 15 minutes.
4. Increase voltage to 75% of the nominal voltage of the energized item, feed
the power supply for another 15 minutes.
5. Increase voltage to 100% of nominal voltage of energized item, feed
power supply for another 15 minutes.
Reconditioning for DC/DC power supply
1. Connect the power supply to a variable DC source with current limiting
functionality (limit the current to 200 mA). The voltage range is adapted
to nominal voltage of energized part.
2. Feed the power supply with 25% of the nominal voltage of the energized
item for 15 minutes.
