Troubleshooting

8.3.3 Messages for errors accessing the external parameter memory

(connector cover)

The CLV490 outputs further error messages, in addition to the general error messages in

Chapter 8.3.1 CLV490 without external parameter memory, Page 8-2, if problems arise

when the external parameter memory is accessed.

Message Meaning Possible cause Remedy

1. "error: access to external

parameters not successful,

internal parameters

loaded"

(Error type: 104, 105,

106, 111, 112,115)

• Start option: S

TART WITH EX-

TERNAL PARAMETERS.

The CLV490 has not loaded

the external parameter set.

Instead, it has loaded the in-

ternal parameter set to its

RAM. The CLV490, however,

does not output data on the

host interface.

• Start option: S

TART WITH COPY

INTERN –> EXTERN.

The CLV490 was not able to

copy the internal parameter

memory. It has loaded the in-

ternal parameter set to its

RAM.

The external parameter memory is

defective.

Repeat the startup procedure. If

the error is still present, contact

the SICK Service department.

2. "error: external parameter

memory full,

internal parameters

loaded"

(Error type: 108)

Start option: S

TART WITH COPY

INTERN –> EXTERN.

The CLV490 was not able to

copy the internal parameter

memory. It has loaded the inter-

nal pa-

rameter set to its RAM.

The internal parameter set is too

large for the external memory

(memory is full).

Contact the SICK Service depart-

ment.

3. "error: external parameters

not valid for device,

internal parameters

loaded"

(Error type: 116)

Start option: S

TART WITH EXTER-

NAL PARAMETERS.

The CLV490 has not loaded the

external parameter set. Instead,

it has loaded the internal pa-

rameter set to its RAM.

The CLV490, however, does

not output data on the host

interface.

The parameter set in the external

memory is not from a CLV490.

Use the correct external para-

meter memory or overwrite the

current one.

4. "error: no external para-

meter memory connected,

internal parameters

loaded"

(Error type: 102)

• Start option: S

TART WITH EX-

TERNAL PARAMETERS.

The CLV490 has not loaded

the external parameter set.

Instead, it has loaded the in-

ternal parameter set to its

RAM.

• Start option: S

TART WITH COPY

INTERN –> EXTERN.

The CLV490 was not able to

copy the internal parameter

set to the external memory. It

has loaded the internal para-

meter set to its RAM.

• External parameter memory not

connected.

• External parameter memory not

connected.

• OK if the device is to be oper-

ated without an external

parameter memory.

• Check whether the memory is

connected correctly (free

wiring: check wire assignment).

• See 4 Remedy, 2nd paragraph
