10.3.1 Function of the external parameter memory
When it is started, the CLV490 is initialized with the data stored in its internal parameter set
(EEPROM). If this parameter set has been copied to an external memory, the device can be
replaced easily. The replacement device, therefore, does not have to be configured manu-
ally. Instead, it accesses the external parameter memory automatically (assuming that the
correct start option has been selected). It then imports the parameter set to its RAM. This
option ("Start with external parameters...") is set by default. The "Device Ready" and "Read
Result" LEDs indicate whether the external memory was accessed successfully. The
CLV490 also outputs messages for troubleshooting purposes on the auxiliary interface.
Note If the CLV490 and an external parameter memory in the connector cover are connected
together to a CDB420 or CDM490 Connection Module containing also an external para-
meter memory provided by the CMC400, the CLV490 will detected both external parame-
ter memories. Before starting the reading mode, the CLV490 will operated as followed:
If the memory of the CMC400 comprises a parameter set compatible with the
CLV490, the CLV490 loads this parameter set into the RAM and into its internal EE-
PROM. The "Device Ready" LED of the CLV490 blinks 20 times and then lights up con-
stantly. Then the CLV490 clears the parameter memory in the connector cover.
In CLV-Setup, the external parameter memory in the connector cover is not longer
available.
If the memory of the CMC400 comprises a parameter set not compatible with the
CLV490, the CLV490 loads the internal parameter set from its in EEPROM into the
RAM. The CLV490 clears the parameter memory in the connector cover. In CLV-Setup,
the external parameter memory in the connector cover is not longer available.
If the memory of the CMC400 is empty, the CLV490 copies the internal parameter set
from its EEPROM via the RAM to the CMC400 if write protection is disabled ("Write Pro-
tection" switch of the CMC400 in top position). The "Device Ready" of the CLV490
blinks 20 times alternately with the "Read Result" LED, then the "Device Ready" LED
ligths up constantly.
If write protection for the CMC400 is enabled, the CLV490 loads the internal parameter
set from its in EEPROM into the RAM. The "Device Ready" and "Read Result" blink con-
stantly together. In both cases, the CLV490 clears the parameter memory in the con-
nector cover.
In CLV-Setup, the external parameter memory in the connector cover is not longer
available.
The CLV490 supports the CMC400 from firmware V 3.30 on.
If necessary, the memory of the CMC400 can be manually deleted.
To do so using CLV-Setup, choose C
LEAR CMC400 under CLV490 in the menu bar.
The application of the CMC400, the changed function of the "Device Ready" and "Read Re-
sult" LEDs of the CLV490 as well as the remedy for errror messages describes the CMC400
Operating Instructions (order no. 8010002, German/English).
