13.2 PROFIBUS Interface
The DME4000 and DME5000 use an identical GSD file. The current GSD file as well as
notes on compatibility of firmware and GSD file can be found in the service area an on the
product page at www.sick.com.
The DME5000 may work either as a class 1 or class 2 (recommended) encoder. DME5000
is a linear absolute encoder by type. The implemented SICK profile is also according to the
ENCODER profile (class 2). Both profile types target the same GSD file. The SICK profile
intends not only a PLC-controlled laser deactivation, but also direct transfer of status
information bits in the cyclic measuring telegram.
Profile Class Function
ENCODER Class 1 4-byte input data, device-specific parameters are only
accessible via the display menu function.
Class 2 4 byte input-/4-byte output data, device-specific
parameters are accessible via GSD and overwritten
parameters entered with the display menu function;
exception: PROFIBUS address and offset with the preset
mode parameters set.
SICK Class 1 See ENCODER-Class-1
Class 2 4 byte input-/4-byte output data, device-specific
parameters are accessible via GSD and overwritten
parameters entered with the display menu function;
exception: PROFIBUS address and offset with the preset
function activated. Additional status bits 25 ... 31 input
data and control bits 29 ... 31 output data.
Recommended settings: SICK profile class 2: This profile has the following benefits:
Measured value and diagnosis bits are already contained in 4-byte input data
(section 13.2.1).
4-byte output data contains preset activation, laser on/off function, (section13.2.2).
Extended diagnostics disabled: shorter PLC cycle time omitting of 16 or 64 byte
diagnosis data (section 13.2.3.), nearly full function at only 4 byte I/O data.
13.2.1 Data Format DME to Master
(DDLM_Data_Exchange)
Encoder profile Bit 31 ... 0 Measured value, unit, according to resolution, bit
25 … 31 unused.
SICK profile Active (1) Inactive (0)
Bit 31 Device error Device OK
Bit 30 Measuring error Measured value OK
