foreachcomputerinthenetwork.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordasdesired,butthe
administratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddiskpassword.
Whenthisiconisdisplayed,typeauserharddiskpassword.Totypeamasterharddiskpassword,
pressF1.Whentheiconchangesto,typethemasterharddiskpassword.Toreturntotheicon
,pressF1again.
Tipsonusingtheharddiskpasswords:
•Youcansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpassword.
•Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,thestoragedrivecanbeusedonlywitha
computerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyoutheninstallthe
storagedriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthatcontainsmorethanseven
characters,youcannotaccessthedrive.
•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orbothuser
andmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromthestorage
drive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethestorage
drivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.
Notes:TheeDrivestoragedrivesorTrustedComputingGroup(TCG)Opal-compliantstoragedrivesprovide
self-encryptioncapabilitiestosecureyourdata.
•IfaTCGOpal-compliantstoragedriveandaTCGOpalmanagementsoftwareprogramareinstalled,and
theTCGOpalmanagementsoftwareprogramisactivated,theharddiskpasswordisnotavailable.
•IfaneDrivestoragedriveisinstalledinyourcomputer,andyourcomputerispreinstalledwiththe
Windows10operatingsystem,theharddiskpasswordisnotavailable.
Setting,changing,orremovingapassword
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
Toset,change,orremoveapassword,dothefollowing:
1.Restartthecomputer.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.
2.SelectSecurity➙Passwordbyusingthedirectionalkeys.
3.Dependingonthepasswordtype,selectPower-onPassword,SupervisorPassword,orHarddiskx
Password.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoset,change,orremoveapassword.
Youmightwanttorecordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Otherwise,ifyouforgetthepassword,
youhavetotakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethepassword
canceled.
