Thischapterprovidesinformationtohelpyoufurtherconfigurethecomputer:
Installinganewoperatingsystem
Insomesituations,youmightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.Thistopicprovidesinstructionson
howtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.
InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
Attention:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourstoragedrive,
includingthedatathatwerestoredinahiddenfolder.
ToinstalltheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.EnsurethatyousetthesecuritychiptoTPM1.2.Formoreinformation,see“Settingthesecurity
chip”onpage61.
2.CopyallthesubfoldersandfilesatC:\SWTOOLStoaremovablestoragedevice.
•ThesupplementfilesfortheWindows7operatingsystemareatC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXES.
•ThedevicedriversareatC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS.
•ThepreinstalledprogramsareatC:\SWTOOLS\APPS.
3.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage70.
4.SelectStartup➙BoottodisplaytheBootPriorityOrdersubmenu.
5.Selectthedrivethatcontainstheoperatingsysteminstallationprogram,forexample,USBHDD.
ThenpressEsc.
6.SelectStartup➙UEFI/LegacyBoot.Thendooneofthefollowing:
•ToinstalltheWindows7(32-bit)operatingsystem,selectLegacyOnlyorBoth.
•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminLegacymode,selectLegacyOnly.
•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminUEFImode,selectUEFIOnly.
Note:Forcomputerswithanon-volatilememory(NVM)Expressdrive,youcaninstalltheWindows
7operatingsystemontothedriveonlyinUEFImode.Inthiscase,ensurethatyoualwaysselect
UEFIOnly.
7.PressF10tosavethesettingsandexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.
8.ConnectanexternalDVDdrivetothecomputer,inserttheWindows7operatingsysteminstallation
DVDintothedrive,andthenrestartthecomputer.

•IfyoustarttheinstallationDVDimagefromanexternalUSBdeviceorifyourcomputerhasanNVM
