indicatordoesnotlightup,havetheacpoweradapterandyourcomputerserviced.

Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepitwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
Ifyourcomputerisgettingnopoweratall,checkthefollowingitems:
1.Verifythepowerbutton.Referto“Statusindicators”onpage8.Thepowerbuttonisilluminated
wheneverthecomputerison.
2.Checkallpowerconnections.Removeanypowerstripsandsurgeprotectorstoconnecttheacpower
adapterdirectlytotheacpoweroutlet.
3.Inspecttheacpoweradapter.Checkforanyphysicaldamage,andmakesurethatthepowercableis
rmlyattachedtotheadapterbrickandthecomputer.
4.Verifytheacpowersourceisworkingbyattachinganotherdevicetotheoutlet.
5.RemovethecomputerfromaThinkPadUltraBaseSeries3,oraThinkPadportreplicatorordocking
station.Referto“ThinkPadUltraBaseSeries3”onpage92
and“DetachingaThinkPadportreplicatoror
dockingstation”onpage105.
6.Removealldevicesandthentestforsystempowerwithminimaldevicesattached.
a.Disconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
b.Closethecomputerdisplay,andturnthecomputerover.
c.Removethebattery,memorymodule,harddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive.SeeChapter6“Replacing
devices”onpage69

d.Waitfor30seconds,andthenreinstallthememorymoduleandtheknowngoodbatteryortheac
poweradaptertotestthecomputerwithminimaldevicesattachedrst.
e.Reinstalleachdeviceoneatatimethatyouhaveremovedintheearliersteps.
Ifyourcomputerdoesnotrunonbatterypower,checkthefollowingitems:
1.Removeandreseatthebatterytomakesurethatitisproperlyconnected.Referto“Replacingthe
battery”onpage69.
2.Swapbatterieswithanothersimilarmodel,ifavailable.
IfanothersimilarThinkPadmodelisavailable,thenverifythatthebatterypackworksintheother
computerandthatthebatterypackfortheothermodelworksinthiscomputer.
3.Verifythebattery-statusindicator.Referto“Statusindicators”onpage8.
Thebattery-statusindicatorisnormallyilluminatedwheneverthebatteryisinstalledandthecomputeris
on,ortheacpoweradapterisconnectedandthebatteryischarging.Thisindicatormaybeblinkingor
solidineitherorangeorgreencolordependingonthestatusofthebattery.
Apowerbuttonproblem
Problem:Thesystemdoesnotrespond,andyoucannotturnoffthecomputer.
Solution:Turnoffthecomputerbypressingandholdingthepowerbuttonfor4secondsormore.Ifthe
systemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapterandthebattery.
Startupproblems
Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepthemwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
