ordertostartyourcomputerandgetaccesstoyouroperatingsystem.
Changingorremovingaharddiskpassword
Tochangeorremovetheuserharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage51.
Note:YouneedtotypeyourpasswordtogetaccesstotheThinkPadSetupprogram.
2.SelectUserHDPandthendoeitherofthefollowing:
•Tochangetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPassword
eld.ThentypethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepassword
youjustenteredtoverifyitintheConrmNewPasswordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNotice
windowisdisplayed.PressF10toexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddiskpassword
willbechanged.
•Toremovetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPassword
eld.ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblank,andpress
Enter.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressF10toexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.The
userharddiskpasswordwillberemoved.
Tochangeorremovethemasterharddiskpasswords,dothefollowing:

•Toremovethemasterharddiskpassword,typethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnter
CurrentPasswordeld.ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordelds
blank,andpressEnter.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressF10toexitfromtheSetupNotice
window.Boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordswillberemoved.
Supervisorpassword
ThesupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredinThinkPadSetup.Noonecanchangethe
computercongurationwithoutthesupervisorpassword.Itprovidesthefollowingsecurityfeatures:
•Ifasupervisorpasswordisset,apasswordpromptisdisplayedwhenyoutrytostarttheThinkPadSetup
program.Unauthorizeduserscannotgetaccesstocongurationdata.
•Thesystemadministratorcanusethesupervisorpasswordtogetaccesstoacomputereveniftheuserof
thatcomputerhassetapower-onpassword.Thesupervisorpasswordoverridesthepower-onpassword.
•Ifbothasupervisorpasswordandapower-onpasswordareset,youcandothefollowingonlyifyou
havethesupervisorpassword:
–Deletingthepower-onpassword
–Changingordeletingthesupervisorpassword
–EnablingordisablingtheWakeonLANfeature
–EnablingordisablingtheInternalNetworkOptionROMfeature
–Changingdateandtime
