Usingrecoverymedia
OntheWindows7operatingsystemoperatingsystem,youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputer
tothefactorydefaultsettingsonly.
Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,alltheles
currentlyontheharddiskdrivewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.
TouserecoverymediaontheWindows7operatingsystemoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB
storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintotheopticaldrive.
2.Turnoffthecomputerandthenturniton.
3.WhenThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.WhentheBootMenu
windowopens,releasetheF12key.
4.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.

1.Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers
forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage65.
2.SomecomputerscomewithMicrosoftOfceorMicrosoftWorkspreinstalled.Ifyouneedtorecover
orreinstallyourMicrosoftOfceorMicrosoftWorksprograms,youmustusetheMicrosoftOfceCD

UsetheRescueandRecoveryprogramtobackupallyourharddiskdrivecontentsincludingtheoperating
system,datales,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.YoucandesignatewheretheRescueand
Recoveryprogramstoresthebackup:
•Inaprotectedareaofyourharddiskdrive
•Onthesecondaryharddiskdriveifasecondaryharddiskdriveisinstalledinyourcomputer
•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive
•Onanetworkdrive
•Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsontheharddiskdrive,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe
harddiskdrive,restoreonlytheselectedles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandprograms.

ToperformabackupoperationusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogramontheWindows7operating
system,dothefollowing:
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageT ools➙Enhanced
BackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
