4.3 Amplifier characteristics of the A-scan diagnosis
The I/O characteristics of the log amplifier, linear amplifier, and S-curve amplifier
selected for the A-scan diagnosis are as shown below.
4.4 Ultrasonic wave output
● MI (mechanical index)
MI is a parameter that indicates the mechanical effects of ultrasound waves on
biological tissue. Mechanical effects are, for example, movement (or flow)
around air bubbles compressed when an acoustic pressure wave of the
ultrasonic wave passes through biological tissue, or energy released when
cavitation temporarily bursts the air bubbles.
TIS (thermal index of soft tissue)
TIS is a parameter that indicates the thermal effects of ultrasound waves on
biological tissue. Thermal effects mean an increase in the tissue temperature
due to emission of ultrasonic waves.
