11.Carefullyremovedustseals,retainingring,angewasherandshaftsealfrom
thefrontange(Figure121).Discardremovedseals.
Inspection
1.Removeanynicksandburrsfromallpartswithemerycloth.
CAUTION
Usegogglesorotherappropriateeyeprotectionwhenusing
compressedairfordryingparts.
2.Cleanallpartswithsolvent.Dryallpartswithcompressedair.

3.Inspectdrivegearsandidlergearsforthefollowing(Figure122):
A.Gearshaftsshouldbefreeofroughsurfacesandexcessivewearat
bushingpointsandsealingareas.Scoring,roughsurfacesorwearon
gearshaftsindicatesneedforreplacement.
B.Gearteethshouldbefreeofexcessivescoringandwear.Anybrokenor
nickedgearteethmustbereplaced.
C.Inspectgearfaceedgeforsharpness.Sharpedgesofgearswillmillinto
wearplatesand,thus,mustbereplaced.
4.Inspectwearplatesforthefollowing:
A.Bearingareasshouldnothaveexcessivewearorscoring.
B.Faceofwearplatesthatareincontactwithgearsshouldbefreeofwear,
roughnessorscoring.
C.Thicknessofwearplatesshouldbeequal.
5.Inspectfrontangeandrearcoverfordamageorwear.
