TestingtheGlowPlugSystem
Thisisafast,simpletestthathelpstodeterminetheintegrityandoperationof
theglowplugsystem.Performthistestwhenyoundhardstarting(coldengine)
onadieselengineequippedwithaglowplugsystem.
Tool(s)required:Digitalmultimeterand/orinductiveAmmeter(AC/DCCurrent
Transducer).
Testinstructions:Properlyconnecttheammetertothedigitalmultimeter(refer
tothemanufacturer’sinstructions).Setthemultimetertothecorrectscale.With
thekeyswitchintheOFFposition,placetheammeterpickuparoundthemain
glowplugpowersupplywireandreadthemeterpriortoactivatingtheglowplug
system.Adjustthemetertoreadzero(ifapplicable).Activatetheglowplug
systemandrecordthemultimeterresults.
Theglowplugsystemofthemachineshouldhaveareadingofapproximately
21A.
CheckingtheOperationoftheInterlockSwitches
CAUTION
Donotdisconnectthesafetyswitches.Theyarefortheoperator’s
protection.
Checktheoperationoftheinterlockswitchesdailyforproper
operation.
Replaceanymalfunctioningswitchesbeforeoperatingthemachine.
ThemachineisequippedwithanElectronicControlUnit(ECU)whichmonitors
theinterlockswitchoperation.TheinformationontheECUisdescribedin
ElectronicControlUnit(ECU)(page6–2).
Theinterlocksystemusedonthismachineincludesthekeyswitch,PTOswitch,
seatswitch,tractionneutralsensorandparkingbrakeswitch.
TestingoftheindividualinterlockswitchesisincludedintheT estingtheElectrical
Components(page6–6).
