RemovingtheSteeringColumn
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,settheparkingbrake,lowerthecutting
deck,shutofftheengine,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Useapunchandhammertoremovethepin(5)fromthesteeringwheel.
Discardthepin.
3.Removethesteeringwheel(1)andwasher(7)fromthesteeringcolumn.
4.Removethesocketheadscrew(3)andwasher(4)thatsecuresthebushing
(6)tothesteeringcontrolvalve(28).Slideandremovethebushing(6)from
thesteeringcontrolvalve(28).
5.Locateandretrievetheshaftkey(29)fromthesteeringcontrolvalve(28).
6.Removethescrewsthatsecuresthedashboard(2)tothesteeringcolumn.
7.Forassemblypurpose,labeltheelectricalwireharnessconnectors.Unplug
theelectricalwireharnessconnectorsfromthedashboard.
8.Removethesteeringcolumncoversfromthesteeringcolumn;referto
DisassemblingtheBodyAssembly(page7–6).
9.Forassemblypurpose,labelthehydraulicpipestoshowtheirpositiononthe
steeringcontrolvalve.
10.Disconnectthehydraulicpipesfromthesteeringcontrolvalve.Install
cleancapsorplugsonthehydraulicpipesandttingstopreventsystem
contamination;refertoRemovingtheSteeringControlValve(page5–113).
11.Disassemblethesteeringcolumnasnecessary(Figure149).
InstallingtheSteeringColumn
1.AssemblethesteeringcolumnusingtheFigure149asaguide.
2.Removethecapsorplugsthatwereinstalledtothehydraulicpipesand
ttingsduringremovalprocess.
3.Usethetagsthatyouattachedduringremovaltocorrectlyconnectthe
hydraulicpipestothesteeringcontrolvalve;refertoInstallingtheSteering
ControlValve(page5–114).
4.Installthesteeringwheelcoversontothesteeringcolumn;referto
AssemblingtheBodyAssembly(page7–7).
5.Usethetagsthatyouattachedduringremovaltocorrectlyconnectthe
electricalwireharnessconnectorstothedashboard.
6.Installthedashboardtothesteeringcolumnandsecureitwiththescrews.
7.Installtheshaftkey(29)intothesteeringcontrolvalve(28).
8.Installthebushing(6)ontothesteeringcontrolvalveandsecurewiththe
washer(4)andsocketheadscrew(3).
9.Installthewasher(7)andsteeringwheel(1)ontothesteeringcolumnand
securewithanewpin(5).
