SIZES OF CUT
Cutting heads will produce a larger particle
than microcut heads. Size of cut is determined
by the type of cutting head and the speed and
type of impeller. Cutting heads and impellers
come in a variety of types and sizes to produce
particle sizes from fine to coarse. The nature
of the product will also affect the size of cut.
Consult Urschel Laboratories for the cutting
head, impeller and impeller speed combination
best suited to a particular application. See
pages 112 thru 115 for a complete list of cut-
ting heads. Impellers are listed with the feed
assembly on page 90.
IMPELLERS
Impellers for use with cutting heads are
available in two inch and three inch heights.
Two inch impellers require a smaller input
product size but can be operated at higher
speeds than three inch impellers, which may
improve results with certain applications.
The Dio-cut impeller is designed to continu-
ally move product over all cutting edges of the
cutting head to produce the longest possible
usage. It is a popular, general purpose impeller
used for a wide range of products. The Straight
Blade impeller is used for special applications
where noise levels are not a concern, less heat
build up is desired and fewer fines are required
(depending on product). The Dog Leg impeller
is used for processing meat and tough, fibrous
products.
