MACHINE SHIPMENT
Every Urschel machine is fully inspected
and test-run before it is shipped. The Model
1700 is completely assembled and can be
operating shortly after arrival. Spare parts and
required tools are packed in a separate box
and shipped in the crate with the machine.
PRE-INSTALLATION PLAN
Before installation, prepare a plan to make
the use of this machine safe and efficient.This
plan should consider location, electrical power
source and method of feeding and collecting
product. Installation should comply with all
applicable safety codes and regulations.
LOCATION
Choose a location that gives ample space
and a clear path on all sides of the machine.
This will provide easy access to the stop/start
controls and the main power disconnect switch
on the starter enclosure and also allow for
cleaning and maintenance. The location
should also provide level footing, adequate
lighting and ventilation and provisions for
excessive noise levels. Never locate machine
in an area with a potentially explosive atmos-
phere.

CAUTION:
Always use the frame to lift
or move the machine (Figure 21), never the
starter enclosure, motor, covers or guards.
Secure machine frame to lifting forks with
a chain or strap to prevent tipping. Do not
crush electrical cords beneath frame when
lifting machine!
PRODUCT FEED AND DISCHARGE
SYSTEMS
This machine can be connected to a prod-
uct feed and/or discharge system by way of
threaded sanitary fittings or Tri-Clamp® fit-
tings. An alternate feed adapter replaces the
funnel hopper and/or a discharge hopper fas-
tens to the cutting enclosure (see pages 90
thru 107 and 148). Flexible hose should be
used between the feed/discharge system and
the machine to prevent the transfer of vibra-
tion.

CAUTION:
If a closed feed/discharge
system is used, it must be monitored care-
fully. Any build-up of product or pressure in
the cutting enclosure could result in seri-
ous damage to the spindle and reduction
head.
