Temperature Deadband
A deadband widens the setpoint to prevent small temperature changes from activating compressors and valves and cause
excessive component cycling. Figure 3.2 below , illustrates temperature control using:
70° setpoint
10° proportional band
deadband
Like the proportional band, the deadband is also divided evenly on each side of the setpoint:
0% cooling capacity is required from 69° to 71°.
At 71°, the system operates according to the temperature proportional band.

Considerations when Using PI Temperature Control
Several factors, such as room heat load, external heat gains, and component-specific performance can affect the PI control
loop. Adjusting the temperature proportional band and integration time can improve cooling unit performance and avoid
problems detailed in Table 3.1 on the facing page .
