The Wallace Perimeter Security SpeedGate is a bi-folding gate system designed for selective access control, primarily for vehicular traffic. It is not intended for pedestrian use, and separate pedestrian gates are recommended. The SpeedGate is capable of opening and closing within a short timeframe (less than 8 seconds).
Function Description:
The SpeedGate operates as a vehicular access control system, allowing rapid entry and exit from secured areas. It consists of five main components: columns, panels, drive mechanism(s), an operator enclosure, and various safety devices. The columns support the guide channel and the gate panels, housing all drive components. The panels, or gate leafs, are hinged to the columns and move to open or close the access path. The drive mechanism, an electro-mechanical system located within the column, powers the panels. In case of power failure, a manual brake disconnect allows for manual operation. The operator enclosure houses the controls and can be operated via push-button stations, vehicle detector loops, card access systems, or other dry contact relay devices. Foil keypads on the operator enclosure doors also allow for direct control.

The gate system is designed for Class I, II, III, or IV Gate Systems, as defined by UL 325 standards. The controller is UL listed for both the United States and Canada.
Usage Features:
- Rapid Operation: Opens and closes in less than 8 seconds, suitable for high-traffic security applications.
- Safety Devices: Equipped with a Type A Inherent Entrapment Sensor (IES) that detects obstructions and causes the gate to stop and reverse. External entrapment protection sensors (photoelectric eyes and/or edge sensors) are required for UL 325 compliance, protecting against entrapment in both opening and closing directions.
- Audible Warning: An audible alarm (buzzer) sounds for a minimum of 2 seconds before any gate movement and continues to pulse during operation, alerting users to gate activity. This feature is mandatory for UL 325 compliance and should never be disabled.
- Access Control Integration: Compatible with various access control devices such as push-button stations, vehicle detector loops, and card access systems.
- Manual Operation: A manual brake disconnect cable allows for manual opening/closing of the gate in case of power failure. This feature should only be used when the gate is not moving and by adequately trained personnel.
- Obstacle Detection: The IES, a reduced speed sensor/torque change sensor (absolute encoder), monitors the gate's position and torque, ensuring the gate reverses upon contact with an obstruction. Sensitivity settings for obstacle detection can be fine-tuned to match site conditions and environmental factors.
- Warning Signs: Supplied WARNING signs must be installed adjacent to the SpeedGate on both sides of the opening, clearly visible to all persons, to comply with UL 325.
- Security Features: Access doors on the columns are lockable to prevent unauthorized access to the drive mechanism.
Maintenance Features:
- Checklists: Comprehensive checklists are provided for weekly, quarterly, semi-annual, and general maintenance to ensure safe and satisfactory operation. These checklists cover visual inspections, lubrication, torque checks, and testing of safety devices.
- Lubrication: All revolving parts, especially gate hinges and drive linkage rod end bearings, require lubrication every 10,000 cycles or six months with recommended lithium or synthetic grease.
- Sensor Cleaning: Photo eye faces should be cleaned regularly with a soft, dry cloth to ensure proper operation.
- Electrical Connections: Regular checks of all electrical cables for proper clearance, weather-tight seals on termination boxes and gearboxes, and secure fasteners are required.
- Troubleshooting: The manual includes detailed troubleshooting guides for common faults and error codes displayed on the LCD, such as motor stall, external stop circuit faults, sensing edge faults, temperature faults, and encoder faults.
- Technical Support: Wallace Perimeter Security offers telephone and email support, as well as a Tech Support Portal, for assistance with gate operation and repairs. Users are advised to provide the gate's serial number and a description of the problem when seeking support.
- Warranty: A 2-year limited product warranty covers defects in material and workmanship, with a lifetime warranty on hinges. Regular maintenance as outlined in the manual is required to maintain warranty validity.
