3.2.4.2.1SizingtheBrakingResistor
Thefollowingapplicationdatashallbeconsideredfortheadequatesizingofthebrakingresistor:
Desireddecelerationtime.
Loadinertia.
Brakingdutycycle.
Inanycase,theeffectivecurrentvalueandthemaximumbrakingcurrentvaluepresentedinTable3.8shallbe
respected.
Themaximumbrakingcurrentdefinestheminimumbrakingresistorvalueinohms.
TheDCLinkvoltagelevelfortheactivationofthedynamicbrakingfunctionisdefinedinparameterC3.6.1(DClink
level).
Thepowerofthebrakingresistorisafunctionofthedecelerationtime,theloadinertia,andtheloadtorque.
Formostapplications,abrakingresistorwiththevalueinohmsindicatedinTable3.8,withthepowerof20%
oftherateddrivenmotorpower.Usewiretyperesistorsinaceramicsupportwithadequateinsulationvoltage
andcapableofwithstandinghighinstantaneouspowerwithrespecttoratedpower.Forcriticalapplicationswith
veryshortdecelerationtimesandhighinertialoads(ex.:centrifuges)orshortdurationcycles,consultWEGforthe
adequatesizingofthebrakingresistor.
