Protocol-basedVLANappliestoL3networksorthoserunningmany
protocols.Protocol-basedVLANdividespacketsbasedontheir
networklayerencapsulationprotocol.Packetswiththesametag
belongtothesameprotocolVLAN.Thisnetworklayerprotocol
basedVLANcanbroadcastpacketscrossseveralVLANswitches.
Itallowsuserstomovefreelyinthenetworkwhileremaintheir
VLANmembershipunchanged.
ThissolutioneliminatestheneedtoreconguretheVLANwhena
usermovestoanotherphysicallocationinthenetwork.Inaddi-
tion,asVLANsareidentiedbasedontheprotocoltypeinsteadof
attachedframetag,trafcthroughthenetworkreduces.
ProtocolVLANisnotonlyenabledonallphysicalportsbydefault
butalsodisabledonportsaccordingtodemands,whichidenties
thatVLANsarebasedonthepackettagonly.Itseparatespackets
withdifferenttagssothatusershaveaccesstodatafromother
usersinthesameVLANonly.
ZXR105900Esupportsupto16protocolVLANs.Thismeansthat
protocolVLANssupportprocessingpacketswith16kindsoftags.
VLANTranslation
VLANtranslationpermitstheswitchesofdifferentuserstohave
sameVLANID.WithVLANtranslation,coreswitchmodiesthe
sameVLANIDofedgeswitchesintothedifferentVLANID.This
functionisolateuserincoreswitchandsimplythecongurationof
edgeswitch.

SuperVLAN
OnatraditionalISPnetwork,oneIPsubnetisallocatedtoeach
user ,whichmeansthattheoccupationofthreeIPaddressesbya
singleuserasitssubnetaddress,broadcastaddressanddefault
