Chapter 8: Creating and Editing Sounds
An example of sampling a new sound:
The following is a step-by-step example of how to record a mono
sound from the analog input:
1. Connect a mono audio signal source to the LEFT RECORD IN
jack.
2. Press the PROGRAM/SOUNDS key, then select 5 from the menu
screen. The Sample New Sound screen will appear.
3. Set the fields to the following values:
Set Input to ANALOG
Set Mode to MONO-LFT
Set Monitor to ON
Set Length to 1 (1 second)
Set Thres to 1
Set Pre-rec to 1
4. While playing the source signal and watching the screen meter,
adjust the rear panel GAIN switch and front panel RECORD
LEVEL knob so that the screen meter goes as far to the right as
possible when the sound plays, but not into the clipping region
(clipping is indicated by ! to the right of the meter). The highest
peak received is indicated by a P within the meter range. To reset
the peak level, press <Reset P>.
5. To begin sampling, press <Rec ready>. The bottom line of the
screen will display Waiting for input signal.
6. Play the sound into the audio input. Sampling starts once the
record threshold is exceeded at the audio input, indicated by the
bottom line changing to Recording.
7. When recording finishes, the screen changes to:
=========== Sample New Sound ===========
Done. Press <Playback> to hear it, then
<Keep & name> or <Discard> to try again.
================= Meter ================
Left : P
Right: P
========================================
<Play/stop><Keep&name><Discard>
As the screen explains, sampling is finished. The Meter section of
the screen shows the highest peak levels received during recording.
To hear the newly sampled sound, press the <Play/stop> soft
key. Pressing the key a second time will stop playback immediately.
If you don’t like how it turned out, press <Discard> to return to
the Sample New Sound screen.
