Chapter 8: Creating and Editing Sounds
Triggering a Sound from an External Signal—
the Audio Trigger
This feature of the MPC3000 allows one of its internal sounds to be
triggered by an external transient audio signal. The triggering is
non-dynamic. If dynamic triggering or triggering of more than one
sound is needed you must use an analog trigger-to-MIDI converter,
available from various manufacturers.
To select this feature, choose option 8, Audio Trigger, from the
PROGRAM/SOUNDS screen. The following screen will appear:
==== Audio Trigger (Use Sync Input) ====
Plays note:64/A01-Sound_name
(Triggering is only active while this
screen is displayed.)
========================================
To use this feature, connect the triggering signal to the SYNC IN
jack on the rear panel of the MPC3000. The triggering signal can be
any percussive sound, but best results will be achieved by using a
signal of consistent dynamics and little background noise. The
SYNC LEVEL control on the rear panel should be used to set the
triggering threshold.
The only field on this screen is the Plays note field. This is used
to select which of the 64 note numbers (35-98) in the current pro-
gram will play when the signal is received. Since the triggering is
non-dynamic, the sound will always play at full velocity.
COMMENT: Triggering can only be done while this screen is
showing, and therefore sequences cannot be played while
triggering is being done.
