Chassis Cooling
Two variants of the 7705 SAR-M chassis are actively cooled using fans and two variants are
passively cooled.
Actively Cooled Chassis Variants
The two actively cooled variants of the 7705 SAR-M chassis have five internal fans that
provide cooling for the components. All five fans are either on or off, depending on control
signals from sensors monitoring the router’s internal temperature. Air enters from the intake
vent on the right side of the chassis and exits through the exhaust vent on the left side.
Maintain the following clearances around the unit:
• at least 2.5 in. (6.4 cm) at the front of the chassis for cable management
• at least 2 in. (5.1 cm) on each side of the a chassis to ensure adequate air intake and
exhaust

Warning: Individual fans are not user-replaceable; however, there is sufficient cooling even
if one of the fans fails. A minor alarm is raised when one fan fails. If two or more fans fail, a
critical alarm is raised and the 7705 SAR-M must be serviced.
Warning: Ensure that air intake and exhaust is not blocked when the 7705 SAR-M is
mounted in a rack.
