Every 1000 Hours or Once a Year
3.6.23. Checking and adjusting the valve
clearance
Dismantle the inlet air piping leading to the turbo
charger and valve covers.
Dismantle the blinding plug on the opening of the
flywheel casing, which serves for inserting the groo-
ved pin.
Insert the grooved pin Cummins no. 3824591 with 1/
2” recess for hex key. Using the key, you can manually
turn the engine.
Every 1000 Hours or Once a Year
By slow turning the engine find the top (top dead
centre) of stroke of no.1 cylinder. In this position valve
rocker arms of both valves (E, I) are free.
Measure the clearance of the inlet and exhaust valves
of the 1st cylinder using the feeler gauges. To adjust
clearance, loosen the locking nut and turn the ad-
justing screw using a screwdriver.
