Every 1000 Hours or Once a Year
3.6.23. Checking and adjusting the valve
clearance
• Dismantle the inlet air piping leading to the turbo
charger and valve covers.
• Dismantle the blinding plug on the opening of the
flywheel casing, which serves for inserting the groo-
ved pin.
• Insert the grooved pin Cummins no. 3824591 with 1/
2” recess for hex key. Using the key, you can manually
turn the engine.
Every 1000 Hours or Once a Year
• By slow turning the engine find the top (top dead
centre) of stroke of no.1 cylinder. In this position valve
rocker arms of both valves (E, I) are free.
• Measure the clearance of the inlet and exhaust valves
of the 1st cylinder using the feeler gauges. To adjust
clearance, loosen the locking nut and turn the ad-
justing screw using a screwdriver.
