3. Drop the shaft into the front compartment of the vehicle and remove to a clean work
surface for further disassembly if required.
IMPORTANT
New oilite bushings installed to the steering column will require reaming for steering
shaft t. Run a 3/4" reamer through the bushing after installation to the steering
column.
Installing The Steering Shaft
1. Apply grease to the steering shaft and insert into the steering column from the bottom
up.
2. Install two keys into the keyways at the top of the shaft.
3. Install the Lower Handle Bar Clamp aligning the keys in the handle bar clamp with
the keys on the steering shaft.
4. Secure with one (1) Washer .39x.94x.13 Zn Di-Chro and one (1) Locknut, Nylon 3/8-
16 Bnz
5. Tighten down the Nylon Locknut against the Flat Washer. Back o the Locknut just
enough to allow the Flat Washer below to be turned by hand minimally. Do not over-
tighten. Ensure the shaft turns freely with minimal end play.
6. Place the Steering Bar to the lower clamp and install the upper clamp securing with
four (4) SHCS 1/4-20x1.0 Zn.
7. Tighten down the fasteners in an "X" pattern indierent to the starting location at a
torque specication of 10 - 12 Ft. LBS (13.5 - 16N.m)
